John Marshall Chapter of American Wine Society
About Our Chapter

The purpose of our chapter is to provide educational assistance and mentoring to members who wish to learn about wine appreciation, viticulture, enology, and/or wine judging. In support of this goal, our chapter presents opportunities for research, presentation, and leadership roles in the Virginia wine industry.

Typical chapter activities include:
  • Monthly wine tastings with member-generated presentations and food pairings.
  • Special tastings (e.g., fine Port with cheese and dessert) at member homes.
  • Summer bar-be-que, potluck, and tasting.
  • Christmas party with other local chapters.
  • Mentoring of members who are new to wine appreciation.
  • Mentoring of judges-in-training or members starting wine-industry careers.
  • Mentoring of newly-formed chapters.
  • Assistance to Virginia vineyards during pruning and harvest seasons.
  • Assistance to Virginia wineries at festivals and special events.
  • Assistance to Virginia wineries during the pressing, blending, and bottling of wine.

If you would like to support these or other chapter activities, please contact our Membership Coordinator.
