DECEMBER MEETING: Christmas Party, hosted by Jennifer Crafts and Rex Bambling

Jennifer and Rex were most gracious hosts for our holiday party. Mike Schlosser make a great wine selections. Everyone brought excellent food to share.  And, Jennifer make a delicious wedding cake, complete with grapes and vines. We surprised Bruce and Renee with a champagne toast and cake cutting to celebrate their nuptials. You won't believe it, but Bruce was speechless! What most is there to say? If you missed this party, you will have to ask those who attended about all the celebrity guests, elegant couture, and insider jokes

JANUARY MEETING:  Spanish is Out, Zin is In, presented by Allan Wulff   (PLEASE RVSP if you plan to attend!)

Happy New Year, y’alls! And, April Fool’s to some. You thought you were gonna get Spanish reds this month, but Schlosser was just jesting. Au contraire, what you’ll get is Allan Wulff’s debut appearance at the dais, presenting zinfandels from around the world: France, Italy, New Zealand − they’re all gonna be there.

Sike, as the kids say; siiike. We’re jesting again. But you already knew that zins only come from California − at least for now. And they make for a very different wine that has acquired a cult, almost fanatic, following, again mostly in California. So come out this Sunday and join the gang. Bring your sword, pop a cork with us, cheer Allan on to victory, and enjoy a most illustrious evening in an otherwise bleak season. Allan may even teach us a thing or two about Zin ancestors.  You won't want to miss this meeting.

Whatever you do, DO NOT go to the Cathedral, or you’ll find yourself getting plunged in holy water. Just go to the John Page Turner house as described below (and RSVP too).

Directions:

Your RSVP can work wonders. Knowing who-all is coming makes for better planning and a better meeting all around. It’s just a Martha Stewart good thing. So do it. Mary Anne has automated the process. Simply click on this link and be whisked to where all you do is enter an email address with your member name(s) and guest name(s). Try it right now, why don’tcha. Thankee.

FEBUARY MARCH MEETING:  There’s Wine in Them Thar Sierra Hills, presented by Bruce and Rene Schaefer   (PLEASE RVSP if you plan to attend!)

One hundred fifty years ago, there was gold in them thar, but it’s all gone now. The gold you find there today is in the chardonnays and sauvignon blancs  − and did I mention zinfandels? − pouring out of the dozens of wineries that dot the Sierra Foothills. Running along the route of the 49ers between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe are several wine regions and several days’ worth of explorations for the intrepid winophile. Bruce and Renee Schaefer spent one day and struck it rich. Mark your calendar for Sunday, February March 13th, and join the new stampede for the Gold Country.

Note: Strike-throughs provided by webmaster due to schedule changes. See the next newsletter for details.

WORDS FROM OUR TREASURER: Pay Up!

That’s right, pal. It's time to fork over. In January, everyone wants a piece of your wallet. However, our kindly treasurer is far gentler than the man who comes to you in April. She asketh not much at all: dues are still a measly $10 per year per address. How can you go wrong? Indeed, you can’t. So bring an extra fin or two with you to the meeting Sunday. Or, you can send it to her in a check mailed to:

Barb Schlosser
3061 Heavenly Lane
Goldvein, VA 22720

And now the spinnyroo on the wall tells us it’s almost Thursday
time to take this to the Post Office and have them stamp it "Rapido!" Whatever your plans were for Sunday, change them. Go to The Plains, join the Band of Believers, and start this new year by doing the right thing!
