APRIL MEETING: Aussome Aussies, presented by Nigel Ogilvie and Louisa Woodville

All accounts are in and tallied: The wines presented last month – Awestralians awl – were awesome indeed. Nigel and Louisa covered themselves, not with grape leaves, but glory in their selections and masterful presentation a la Powerpoint. Once entry to the JP Turner house was gained, the evening uncovered the miracles listed below.  Jan Beakley stepped in for Jennifer Crafts, delivering edibles that were equally awe-inspiring. People reported a humbled feeling. Men wept openly. It was a seminal night, I tell you.

MAY MEETING:  Hot Time, Summer in the City, presented by Michael Schlosser  (PLEASE RVSP if you plan to attend!)

With summer just around the corner, each and every one of us is presented with a conundrum. You see, summer means hot, humid days and only slightly less humid nites. Except for the days when it rains buckets (usually on Saturday or Sunday), in which case the world gets very cold and you huddle around the Duraflame log in the fireplace. The problem thus presented is: What color should my wine be?

And, it gets worse. What if you cook a hot white chicken for that cold wet night? Or, Heaven forbid, in the middle of a hot humid white wine night, a thunderstorm breaks loose and sends you running for the blankets? O, Mein Gott, it overwhelms the synapses. My hair hurts to think!

Enter Michael Schlosser not a moment too soon. He has an evening of reds and whites (and perhaps a pink) to fit every mood, temperature, or main dish the summer might throw at you. The Slosh has combed the seven continents to come up with his selections and promises no one will leave disgruntled. Or gruntled. As always, incredible edibles will be present also, to fill the waistband. Truly an evening not to be missed!

Bring a friend. Bring your mother. And, a blanket just in case. The fun starts at 6:30 p.m. at the John Page Whats-his-name house again. Note that Mr. Turner remains a mystery. Even Google turns up nothing except the house named after him, of which we speak. Do JP, Michael, and yourself a favor and RSVP, won’tcha?

JUNE MEETING:   Picnic South of France with a Virginia Slant, presented by Jan and Guy Beakley with George Wilson   (PLEASE RVSP if you plan to attend!)

That’s right, there is no topic planned. Jan writes, “Originally, we thought we'd do a sort of ‘South of France with a Virginia slant’ tasting and meal, but as of last night, Guy and George (that rascal) Wilson  are cooking up a different idea.” All we can tell you is, that meeting will be at their house. That’s right, the stately Chez Beakley manse surrounded by grapevines and vegetables. Whatever they come up with will be great with me. I’m reserving for that one right now.

Time for newsletters and scribes to go to bed. Do your RSVP now
and make plans to be there Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

Your humble scribe,
