which gives you a rough idea of how hard up I am for a drink.”

MARCH MEETING:

We had a "New York State of Mind" last month as Karen Stokes brought us Long Island wines to taste.  The wines were all purchased during one of her recent visits there.  She also provided some great background on the area as well as relating her experiences in the area.  And, to complement the wines, Karen provided us with a New York Deli platter to nibble from, including bagels, cold cuts, cheeses, olives, grapes, etc.  She certainly did prove to us that Long Island is not just for Iced Tea Cocktails anymore!  The wines tasted (including the two social wines) were as follows:

Year
Producer
Designation
Cost
2002
Wölffer La Ferme Martin Chardonnay$ 14.99
NV
Bedell Cellars Main Road Red$   9.99
2001
Peconic Bay La Barrique Chardonnay$ 16.99
2003
Borghese Vineyard and Winery Riesling$ 14.50
2002
Callucio Vineyards Gristina Rosi $  9.99
NV
Macari Winery Collina 48 (90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc) $  7.99
2000
Corey Creek Vineyards Merlot $ 19.00
2000
Pellegrini Vineyards Cabernet Franc (unfiltered) $ 17.99

As you can see, we had quite a sampling of wines.  Thanks again, Karen, for putting it all together and sharing your experiences with us!

APRIL MEETING:

Our next meeting will have us traveling a bit further away.  Carl Brandhorst will be leading our tour as we explore Austrian wines.  The meeting is scheduled for Friday, April 15, 2005, at St. Mary's Church.  The gathering will begin at 7:30 p.m. while the formal meeting should get underway at 8:00 p.m.  Please RSVP at least 24 hours in advance if you are planning to attend so we will have enough of everything.  Call 703-941-2384 or complete the following RSVP form

See you on the 15th!   Looking into the future, the following meeting will be on Friday, May 20th.

Cheers,
